Youth In Transition (YIT)

The Youth in Transition (YIT) study follows over 420 adolescents who started an addiction treatment over a longer period of time. We are studying factors and characteristics that are “positive” or “negative” for their treatment and addiction trajectory.

The YIT-study consists of three appointments for the participants. The first appointment was planned around the time that treatment started (baseline), the second appointment took place two years later (2-year follow-up), and the third appointment was planned four years after start of treatment (4-year follow-up). After addiction treatment had been concluded, a member of the research team also held a telephone appointment with the practitioner (end of treatment).

The study is nearing the end of its data collection phase, and we expect to conclude data collection of the 4-year follow-up before mid 2025. We have completed the 2-year follow-up data collection with a follow-up rate of 90%, and we also expect to finalize the 4-year follow-up with a high inclusion rate. The first scientific articles based on the YIT-study have been published (see the sidebar), and we are currently scrubbing and processing our collected data. We hope that our new findings will bridge the gap between science and clinical practice in addiction care!
